Passover

My country is under siege from within

By terrorists using biological warfare

And now they are threatening our children

It’s not enough that we have to put up

With the locusts they have unleashed

to eat our crops and destroy our food supply.

It’s not enough that they’ve contaminated our water

So that instead of flowing clear it runs red,

And they have infected our livestock

With a deadly pestilence

No, not for him, the smug, bearded murderer

Who calls himself a freedom fighter,

A Holy Warrior, who says that God is On His Side,

Then says he will murder our children

if we don’t give in to his demands.

We must be strong. We must not yield.

Even though a “Great cry be heard,

as has never been heard, and never will be again,”

Egypt does not negotiate with terrorists.

I will not let your people go.

Poem in free verse about my hair

I am at a crossroads concerning my hair.

I did not mean to grow it out, in truth

I merely didn’t get around to cutting it,

And now it is too long.

Or perhaps not long enough

for what I want to do with it.

It all depends on what looks cool.

In my mind it looks good long,

But in my mind the sides of it curl out

In opposite directions

(And they don’t actually do that.)

I look at pictures of

myself when my hair was long

Longer than now, and I think to

myself “why did I do that?”

But now that it’s getting that long again

I don’t want to cut it.

I do not like my hair.

It is uncooperative no matter what the length,

but it is very soft and I like how it feels

Anyway it is my hair and there's no changing it.

Sonnet for Global Warming

Winter is come too late this year, and meek
With fearsome flurries falling in the night
Only to melt away when daylight peeks
Out over the horizon – tis’ not right
For it should be a wild, untamed beast
With fierce and biting cold none can resist
But cold has not been fearsome in the least,
And no strong winds have offered to assist.
Since no white blanket covers these fair hills,
And nothing, save a jacket is required,
To keep us from these weak, ill-tempered chills,
This song, invoking winter, is inspired,
Therefore, keep we our greenhouse gasses low,
If e’er again we wish to see the snow.

Emo poetry time

Seriously, blame my friend Grace.

Your Smile

I smile at you
Across the room
And you smile back and pull me in

Your eyes are wormholes
To a strange and fantastic world
I peer into them and see the possibilities
Of what we could be
And I can’t look away

But of course I know I must
And I know at this point I must be staring,
So I glance around,
Trying to find something,
Anything else to look at.

I settle on my feet.

Then he comes in.
He smiles at you
Across the room
And you smile back, the same smile

The same smile
Yet he is the one
Who will take your hand in his
And hold you when your world falls apart

And in your eyes,
I see what we have,
And what could be fade away,
And I know I will have to be content
with a whispered “hello”
and a smile from across the room

To be inserted after the second stanza of act one:

So Laertes went off to France
While his sister struck up a romance
With that same Danish lord
Though her brother implored
"He'll just try to get into your pants"

Hamlet in Limerick, Act I

There was a young Prince of the Danes
Who went most completely insane
Though he talked for five acts,
He gave almost no facts
And for pages on end he'd complain

For his uncle had murdered his dad,
But what made him incurably sad,
Was that not two months after
With mirth and with laughter
His Mother had married the cad!

Then the Ghost of Ham Senior returned
From the graveyard where he'd been interred
Hamlet he did regail
With his murderous tale
And this is the story he learned

"As one day I slept under a tree
My brother approached sneakily
took a draught most severe,
poured it into my ear
And now," said the Ghost, "Avenge me!"

Coming soon: Act II!

Poem

This Poem has no title. I wrote it for Interdisc. It is dedicated to the Memory of Glenn Snyder.

From the Sands of Iwo Jima,
To Bloody Anzio,
You fought to serve our country
So many years ago

From Pearl Harbor to Midway
And to the Coral Sea
Over the skies of France you fought
To keep our country free

Whether soldiers, sailors, medics,
Or our daring aviators
The cause of Freedom drew you on
Our bold and brave crusaders

And in the darkest twilight
Your courage never failed
You held the line all through the fight
As through the night you sailed

We owe you so much, so much more
Than I have words to say
So we thank you for your service
That we never can repay
